Message length

Message length

MOBILedit calculates the length of the written text in the form of a countdown. Its length is being displayed as a number of characters already written / the number of characters available in one message and the number of messages that will be charged by an operator.

Example: 54 / 160 (2) - There is 54 characters written in the second message, the total amount of characters is therefore 214. The message will be charged as two by the operator.

Note that even if you write a single message only, it can be charged by the operator as several messages by 160 (or 151) characters per message.

  • e. g. A single message consisting of 350 characters will be automatically charged as 3 messages (according to the operator's tariff).

The letters which are not included in the GSM international character set (e.g. Diacritical marks) may be counted as several letters. MOBILedit counter takes that into account. The GSM button is capable of replacing these characters with those most alike to shorten the message length.

If you find your message too long when writing it, you may appreciate the text compression functions:

  • GSM - replaces the GSM incompatible characters with those most alike to shorten the message length.
  • Pack - removes all spacing from the text and divides words by capital letters. Punctuation will be removed and transformation into GSM format will be applied.
  • Unpack - restores packed messages
